Buying Time VideoThis 10-minute film demonstrates the basic ideas and technologies of High-Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes, which are expressway lanes that can be used for free by buses and carpools, and which single-occupant vehicles can use by paying a fee. This helps to utilize extra capacity on carpool lanes and gives solo drivers a way to bypass congestion. This type of system is in use in Orange County and San Diego, California. Trondheim Tollring VideoThe City of Trondheim (Norway's third largest city) introduced an electronic tolling system on roads running in and out of the city center in 1991. Since its implementation, the Trondheim Tollring has provided a model for other pricing projects.
