The Environmental Defense and the Humphrey School co-sponsored a workshop on January 25, 2007, on congestion pricing and urban partnerships for transportation professionals, at which a U.S. Department of Transportation Assistant Secretary discussed the USDOT's Urban Partnerships Program.
The workshop discussed how various cities across the world are successfully curbing traffic congestion, reducing pollution, raising new revenue, and improving public transport and efficient goods movement. The featured speaker was Gunnar Söderholm, the key government official who implemented Stockholm's congestion pricing system which cut traffic by 25%, congestion delay by 30-50%, and pollution by 14%. The workshop also included presentations on other successful congestion and pollution cutting pricing projects in London, Germany, Norway and Singapore. PDF files of the PowerPoint presentations of the speakers may be downloaded.
