Sustainable Technologies Applied Research (STAR) TEA-21 Project

Project Overview

The Humphrey Institute's State and Local Policy Program has been working with the University of Minnesota's Intelligent Transportation Systems Institute to conduct a set of federally sponsored studies on how transportation systems can be planned in an increasingly complex social, political, economic, and technological environment.

  Summary Matrix

The research for the STAR TEA-21 project is divided into five tasks over a period of six years. Research has been divided into a Concept Phase (years 1-2), Implementation Phase (years 3-4), and Synthesis Phase (years 5-6).

  STAR Team

Nine researchers contribute to the STAR TEA-21 Project. Each graduate faculty member focuses their energy on one of the five subtasks and brings vast knowledge in their respective area of expertise.

Complexity Roundtable

On Tuesday, November 12, 2002, the Center for Transportation Studies hosted MIT Professor Joe Sussman as keynote speaker for their 15th anniversary luncheon. The event included an interactive session with Professor Sussman and selected researchers and practitioners to explore in more detail the research and management challenges of managing transportation in a complex environment.

Publications and Reports

STAR research has led to a number of publications.

Annual reports have been compiled for each of the first three years of research.
