FOCUS AREA - PUBLIC INTEREST PHILANTHROPY

The PNLC's efforts in philanthropy date back to the early 1990s with the scholarly and outreach work of Bill Diaz and the Program on Philanthropy, Nonprofits, and Public Policy. Since then the PNLC has furthered its work in the development expansion of its philanthropic programs. The PNLC's current focus in public interest philanthropy is to promote excellence, accountability, dialogue, and broad-based participation in philanthropy that supports the core public values of a democratic society.

Faculty and fellows with the PNLC are well positioned with expertise related to philanthropy. The Center hosts the Louis W. Hill, Jr. Fellowship in Philanthropy, inviting annual Minnesota philanthropic leaders to research, documents, and reflect areas of interest specific to philanthropy. Additionally, former Center Senior Fellow Jackie Copeland Carson expanded the Center's efforts beyond traditional definitions and frameworks within the field.
