Second Annual Philanthropy and Public Policy Luncheon: Connecting Grantmakers and Policymakers
with the Minnesota Council on Foundations
On June 2, 2010, grantmakers and public leaders explored opportunities for shared dialogue, creating and strengthening relationships. Dr. Leslie Lenkowsky, director of graduate studies at the Center on Philanthropy, Indiana University, presented a keynote address highlighting the "new reality" of public-private partnerships. He spoke of an opportunity for increased collaboration among foundations, corporations and government to develop more extensive solutions to local, state and regional issues.
Following Dr. Lenkowsky’s keynote, moderator and Star Tribune columnist Lori Sturdevant led a panel discussion to respond and provide additional insight on what makes public-private partnerships effective. Panelists were: Bernadine Joselyn, Director of Public Policy and Engagement at the Blandin Foundation, Lee Sheehy, Program Director- Region and Communities at The McKnight Foundation, Elizabeth Kautz, Mayor of the City of Burnsville (MN) and President of the US Conference of Mayors, and Minnesota Representative Nora Slawik.
