2012 Nonprofit Leadership Conference
This year's conference, held on June 26th at the beautiful MN Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen, incorporated some new strategies like facilitated Pro-Action Cafes and Trending Briefs to allow participants a more engaged and active role in sharing ideas and strategies for their work. Sessions covered topics ranging from the traditional (finance and board development) to trending (social media and fearless leadership through the art of improv comedy).
Keynote speaker Tuesday Ryan-Hart guided conference-goers to think about ways to enhance awareness, understanding, alliances and action across differences.
PNLC faculty, adjuncts, staff and Advisory Group members led or facilitated a number of conference sessions, including Jodi Sandfort, Kevin Gerdes, Kathy Quick, Julia Classen, and Jon Pratt.

2011 Nonprofit Leadership Conference: Leading Beyond Limits
On June 14th, the PNLC joined the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits to share ideas, strategies and attitudes about how nonprofit organizations, including yours, lead beyond limits - engaging people, improving systems, and strengthening communities.
Keynote speaker Ronnie Brooks, division director at Wilder Center for Communities, shared her reflections stepping up and stepping back. Looking at the changing nature of leadership, she spoke to the challenge of finding ways to define and sustain actions that nurture individuals, strengthen communities and make for a more humane society.
PNLC faculty, adjuncts, staff and Advisory Group members led a number of conference sessions, including Michael Anderson, Kate Barr, Ellis Bullock, Julia Classen, Pham Thi Hoa, Bernadine Joselyn, Mai Moua, Kathy Quick, and Jodi Sandfort.
2010 Nonprofit Leadership Conference:
Thriving in the New Normal
The PNLC joined the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits as co-hosts of the 2010 Nonprofit Leadership Conference, held June 3rd. Nearly 500 registered participants discussed adapting to the changing fiscal landscape, and how to be resilient and innovative in order to respond to, and deliver, programs and services in this new normal.
Professor Jodi Sandfort moderated a “Reimaging” conversation with nonprofit leaders who led their organizations through significant change. She also served on a panel discussion on Leveraging Organizational Culture for Impact: Changing Organizational Culture. PNLC Director Kim Borton served on a panel discussion on Students as Volunteers: You Need Them, You Want Them: Engaging Volunteers and Communities. PNLC Adjunct Professor Julia Classen's panel discussion focused on Social Justice Funders Collaborative: Maximizing a Movement Moment, Building Partnerships and Collaborations. Several other PNLC faculty, staff and adjuncts also attended the conference.
Two PNLC Adjunct Professors were honored with Nonprofit Leadership Awards. Kate Barr was named the 2010 Visionary Leader for developing and implementing creative and effective organizational leadership strategies, and for creating and nurturing valuable collaborations and partnerships to advance the work of nonprofits, resulting in tangible benefits to the community. Kate is the Executive Director of the Nonprofits Assistance Fund. Kate teaches PA 5003: Introduction to Financial Analysis and Management. Michael wirth-Davis was honored with the Transformational Leader award, acknowledging his dedication to the nonprofit sector in over 20 years of leading Minnesota nonprofits, and his contributions to the success and knowledge of other nonprofits and nonprofit leaders. Michael is the President and CEO of Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota. Michael teaches PA 5101: Management and Governance of Nonprofits.
