2008 Events Archive

2008 was one of CSPG's busiest years with events. The Center hosted numerous prominent leaders, including Derek Chollet, senior fellow at the Center for a new American Security in Washington, D.C.; James Goldgeier, professor at George Washington University; "Washington Week's" Gwen Ifill; NPR's Michele Norris; Andrea Elliot from the New York Times; former Vice President Walter Mondale; Norm Ornstein from the American Enterprise Institute; and Deborah Stone, professor at Dartmouth College.

One of the highlights of 2008 wasa series of forums of independent and respected analysis and commentary during the Republican National Convention that took place in St. Paul, Minnesota from Sepetember 1-4, 2008. America's Future: Conversations about Politics and Policy during the 2008 Republican National Convention offered a series of public forums on the presidential election and American politics and a wide range of domestic and foreign policies. The conference featured many well-known speakers, including Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT), Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee; Henry Kissinger, U.S. Secretary of State,1973-1977 and 1973 Nobel Peace Prize laureate; and former CIA Director R. James Woolsey.

Lastly, the Center hosted two series of candidate forums. One brought in candidates running for Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District, and the second series hosted candidates for Minnesota's seat in the U.S. Senate.
