News Release: Center for Integrative Leadership at the University of Minnesota names Anna Lloyd Executive Director

Anna Lloyd, consultant and former executive director of the Committee of 200, an organization of top women entrepreneurs and corporate executives, has been named executive director of the Center for Integrative Leadership, a new initiative at the University of Minnesota to examine and develop leadership models for complex global challenges like world poverty and global warming.

Lloyd begins her duties March 12 and will be charged with managing all of the center’s non-academic activities and supporting the center’s academic activities. She will support the efforts of the center’s two academic co-directors and be guided by 20 steering committee members from throughout the University of Minnesota.

The Center for Integrative Leadership at the University of Minnesota aims to develop a better understanding of how collective action across sectors (business, government, nonprofit, media and academia) and geographic boundaries can solve some of the world’s most pressing and complex societal problems. It is a cooperative undertaking of the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs and the Carlson School of Management.

“We are delighted that Anna has accepted the challenge to lead us in our efforts to respond to some of the most pressing problems of the 21st Century,” said Alison Davis-Blake, dean of the Carlson School of Management. “Anna has a recognized track record directing high-impact organizations that address key issues in the collaboration between American business and education,” added J. Brian Atwood, dean of the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.

As president of TheLloydGroup, a Chicago-based consulting and training organization for non-profit organizations, Lloyd has spent a decade specializing in board governance and working with such clients as the Ignatia Foundation and City of Chicago Green Campaign. Lloyd previously was president and executive director of The Committee of 200 (C200), a professional organization of pre-eminent businesswomen that promotes entrepreneurship and corporate leadership among women. Lloyd also led her own public affairs firm that specialized in public-private sector partnerships.

“This opportunity comes at a pivotal time in our country's culture and our world culture, as communities need principled leaders and our leaders deserve thoughtful debate as they explore ideas,” said Lloyd. “ I am very pleased to join the University administration and believe that the Center will be the hub for both conversation and case study.”   Lloyd has served in a variety of leadership roles for a number of nonprofit organizations, including Ms. Foundation for Women, The New York Aids Coalition, the Interfaith Center for Corporate Responsibility, and many others. She also served on the advisory board of the Center for Women and Aging, Brandeis University. Lloyd holds a master’s degree in urban affairs and public policy from Hunter College in New York City and a bachelor’s degree in urban affairs from Boston University.
