Service learning for students and communities

Sixteen state colleges and universities around the country are working together to better integrate citizenship with coursework. The effort deepens service learning by involving staff and community members as well as faculty and students.

Since the Civic Agency Initiative was launched last fall, Northern Arizona University and Georgia College and State University have begun partnerships with local K-12 schools, where college students serve as coaches for youth Public Achievement teams.

The Civic Agency Initiative is coordinated by the Center for Democracy and Citizenship and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
