We the Owners: Employees Expanding the American Dream

Who should own the business? We the Owners: Employees Expanding the American Dream is a newly released documentary that explores this question. This film captures the inside stories of the founders and employee owners of New Belgium Brewing, Namaste Solar and DPR Construction as they share their experiences and challenges, each structured with distinct forms of broad-based employee ownership. Student Networking Session With Thomas Nides: State Department Deputy Secretary

Career Services at the Humphrey School will host University of Minnesota alumnus Thomas Nides on Tuesday, April 24 from 1 to 2 p.m. in Freeman Commons (Room 205). Nides is the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, serving as chief operating officer of the department. Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Nides was the chief operating officer for Morgan Stanley, a leading global financial services firm. Join other students in talking with Deputy Secretary Nides about his experience and current career opportunities within the State Department. Career Conversation with Michael Hurley: Intelligence, Diplomacy & National Security

Career Services at the Humphrey School will host a student networking session with Michael Hurley on Monday, April 23, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Wilkins Room (Room 215). Michael Hurley is an attorney and president of Team 3i, an international strategy company. Hurley was the adviser to the co-chairmen of the 9/11 Commission, and is a consultant to the Homeland Security Project and the Bipartisan Policy Center. He directed the counter-terrorism policy investigation for the 9/11 Commission and is the Counter-terrorism adviser to the State Department and to the Nuclear Threat Initiative. Humphrey students are invited to learn more about Hurley's career in intelligence, national security, and diplomacy. He also will talk about Afghanistan, the 9/11 Commission, and national security issues. A Conversation with Robert Johns

The State and Local Policy Program at the Humphrey School will host Robert Johns, director of the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, which is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Innovative Technology Administration, on Wednesday, April 18, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in Room 180. Formerly the head of the University of Minnesota's Center for Transportation Studies, Johns will speak with on federal transportation policy issues and career opportunities in USDOT. 25th Anniversary of the Mentor Program

The Humphrey School of Public Affairs will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the mentor program from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 in the Cowles Auditorium at the Humphrey School. A short program featuring highlights of the past 25 years of mentoring at Humphrey will be followed by a reception with great food and refreshments. Join us in celebrating a program that has engaged more than 500 Humphrey School alumni mentoring 1,411 students since its inception in 1986-87.
