NEWS & VIEWS - WINTER 2007 - 2008

Alumnus gives update from Islamabad, Pakistan

"I have been meaning to write an update on my recent travels for a number of months and haven't found the mental space to do it. Oddly, it strikes me that now might be a good time as I sit in Islamabad during the state of emergency that was called by President Musharraf about two weeks ago."

So begins a recent e-mail update from Humphrey Institute alumnus Steven Gray (MA '85) who has been living and working in Islamabad, Pakistan, for IFES. Formerly called the International Foundation for Election Systems, IFES is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that provides countries with the technical advice and tools they need to run democratic elections.

Alumni Tuition Grant Program update

By Chuck Johnson (MA '82) and Misty Heggeness (MPP '00)
Co-chairs, alumni board student finance committee

Fundraising for the Alumni Tuition Grant Program (ATGP) began in earnest this fall.  The ATGP campaign runs from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008, and scholarships are awarded in April 2008. As of December 7, we have raised $23,465 from 225 donors with an average gift size of $91. As you know, the ATGP is our way as alumni to provide financial support to second year students based on scholarship and need. With current tuition and fees of at least $6,233.50 per semester, your help is more important than ever

Thank you to all of you that have contributed-you are making a difference for Humphrey Institute students. If you have not yet contributed, please make your gift today.
