PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS

Generally, mentors and students will need to commit a minimum of 18 to 22 hours, plus travel time, over the nine months of the Mentor Program, for kick-offs, monthly meetings, various mentor events, and the wrap-up celebration.

Students should be aware that the mentor relationship is not a promise of future employment, although it promotes professional connections that may lead to careers.  In addition, mentorships are not internships and carry no academic credit.

Mentor Responsibilities
The responsibilities of a mentor include: scheduling regular meetings with the student and participating in program events, working personally with the student, encouraging the student to observe her or him in the professional environment, and linking the student to other professionals.

Student Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the student include: keeping scheduled meetings, participating in program events, and initiating contact when necessary, reflecting on his or her goals for the program and telling the mentor what would be helpful, and maintaining professional confidentiality.
