Mentor Responsibilities
Domestic Mentor Program: The responsibilities of a mentor include: working with your student to schedule regular meetings, participating in program events, working personally with your student, encouraging him or her to observe you in your professional environment, and linking the student to other professionals.
Global Mentor Program: Global mentors connect with their students monthly or more, either in person (if local) or through various forms of distance technology. They advise their students on international career options, share wisdom learned from their own career paths, and help students connect with other professionals in the field. They will also be encouraged to participate as a member of a global alumni community through LinkedIn’s Humphrey Global Mentors.
Student Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the student in both programs include: working with the mentor to schedule and keep regular meetings, participating in program events, initiating contact when necessary, clearly communicating his or her goals for the program, telling the mentor what would be helpful, and maintaining professional confidentiality.
Students should be aware that the mentor relationship is not a promise of future employment, although it promotes professional connections that may lead to careers. In addition, mentorships are not internships and carry no academic credit.
