Humphrey School Alumni Board Member, Alex Oftelie (MPP ’03) helped to coordinate the Second Annual Day of Service for the Twin Cities Humphrey alumni and student community. This year, Dean Eric Schwartz was able to join current students and alumni to support needed landscaping work at Children's Village Center/Hope Communities in Minneapolis. This year's Day of Service was held on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
Hope Community is a catalyst for change, growth and safety. They are building a sustainable neighborhood model through community organization, active education, leadership and affordable housing developments that include a community center, playgrounds and gardens. Humphrey volunteers pitched in with clean-up and landscaping assistance.
The event provided an opportunity to bring students and alumni together in serving community needs. Alumni groups in Chicago and Washington D.C. have also coordinated their own Day of Service for their local community.
