Katie Burns (MA '97)
Katie Burns worked at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
for three years after completing her degree at the Humphrey School.
She was a presidential management intern (PMI) and worked both in
the Budget Office and in the Immediate Office of the Secretary on
Medicaid, welfare and child support issues. Since moving back to
the Twin Cities in November 2002, Katie has been employed at the
Minnesota Department of Finance on health care and human service
budget issues. Katie also volunteers with Project Foundation, an
organization that provides emergency and longer?term assistance
to homeless youth.
Steve Cramer (MA '97)
Steve Cramer is the Executive Director of Project for Pride in Living,
Inc. (PPL) for a second time. PPL is a Twin Cities Community Development
Corporation (CDC) dedicated to creating opportunities for lower
income families by offering comprehensive programs in housing, employment
and training, supportive services and youth development. PPL's
programs reach 7000 people annually and include ownership/management
of 700 units of affordable rental housing.
Mr. Cramer was the first Director of the Hennepin County Department
of Housing, Community Works & Transit starting February 2002
through August 2003. Mr. Cramer served as the Executive of the Minneapolis
Community Development Agency from 1999 to his appointment with the
County. From 1994 through 1999, Mr. Cramer worked for Project for
Pride in Living, Inc. (PPL) for the first time, serving as the Director
of Housing and Development, Chief Operating Officer and finally
President and Executive Director. Mr. Cramer was elected to the
Minneapolis City Council and served as a Council Member from 1984
through 1993.
Mr. Cramer has served on the Twin Cities United Way Housing Impact
Committee, the House Minnesota Advisory Committee, Fannie Mae National
Housing Impact Advisory Committee, Catholic Charities Board of Directors,
St. Joseph's Home for Children Advisory Board and as Vice-Chair
of the Metropolitan Airports Commission. He is currently active
in the Pearl Park Youth Athletic Association.
Katharine Hill (MPP '99)
Katharine Hill is a project coordinator at the Institute on Community
Integration (ICI) at the University of Minnesota. She is responsible
for the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of a variety
of state and federal research and evaluation projects in the areas
of special education and disability policy. Katharine also completed
a Master of Social Work in a dual degree program with the Humphrey School and is a 1994 graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul,
Minnesota.
Bernadine Joselyn (MPA '00)
Bernadine Joselyn is a graduate of the Humphrey School's
MPA, a 30 credit program for mid-career professionals. She is currently
the Director of Public Policy & Engagement at the Blandin Foundation,
in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. As director, Bernadine is responsible
for promoting rural perspectives in the realm of public policy in
Minnesota. Her two major initiatives at the moment involve forestry
and broadband. The Vital Forests/Vital Communities initiative aims
to strengthen Minnesota's forests and forest based economies
in ways which are both ecologically and fiscally responsible. The
second major initiative is focused on making broadband telecommunications
more accessible to rural communities, in the belief that this will
allow rural economies to remain competitive into the 21st century.
Bernadine is Minnesota born and raised and mother to a 5 year-old
boy. She is a small woodlot owner, and her hobbies include canoeing
and cycling.
Scott Leitz (MA '91)
Scott Leitz is the director of the Health Economics Program at the Minnesota
Department of Health (MDH), where he also serves as the state health economist.
Scott's program conducts research and analysis into Minnesota's health
care marketplace, and provides assistance and advice to Minnesota's legislature
and policymakers regarding health care cost and access issues. Prior to
his work at the MDH, Scott worked for Minnesota's Office of the Legislative
Auditor and as an economic analyst for the Federal Reserve Bank of St.
Louis.
Scott is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, with
a degree in economics and mathematics. He entered the Humphrey School
in 1991, and completed his Masters in Public Affairs with an emphasis
on policy analysis and quantitative methods in 1993.
Tim Marx (MA/JD '79)
Governor Tim Pawlenty appointed Tim Marx Commissioner of the Minnesota
Housing Finance Agency in April 2003. Prior to his appointment as
commissioner, he was with the law firm of Briggs and Morgan.
Tim began with Briggs and Morgan in 1986 and has extensive experience
representing governmental, non-profit and private clients. In 1993,
at the request of Saint Paul Mayor Norm Coleman, he left Briggs
and Morgan to serve as Saint Paul City Attorney. In 1997, he was
named Deputy Mayor and served in this capacity until rejoining Briggs
and Morgan in 1998. He has also served as general counsel to several
non-profit organizations.
Tim is active in numerous organizations as board member or task
force member including the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce and
its Political Action Committee, the Capital City Partnership, the
Citizens League, the Saint Paul Board of Education, and the Minnesota
Children's Museum. Tim is a frequent author and lecturer at legal
and other seminars.
Jim Mulder (MA '82)
Jim Mulder is the Executive Director of the Association of Minnesota
Counties (AMC). He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota,
Morris, with a Bachelor of Science degree and entered the Humphrey School in 1982.
Mr. Mulder has been the Executive Director for AMC for fifteen
years. Prior to holding this position, Mr. Mulder served as the
county coordinator for McLeod County. He worked for the Minnesota
House of Representatives as a researcher, and as a committee administrator
for the House Tax Committee.
The AMC is a voluntary association of all of Minnesota's
eighty-seven counties. The Association provides a broad range of
services that include lobbying the Minnesota Legislature, working
with state departments and agencies and providing training and information
to Minnesota County officials.
Aaron North (MPP '02) is director
of the Minnesota Charter School Resource Center at the Humphrey School's Center for School Change. Previous to his academic and
professional work at the Humphrey School, he taught high school
English with Teach for America in North Carolina. After graduating
from the University of Kansas in 1997, Aaron worked for Andersen
Consulting and Sprint PCS. North does not enjoy circus clowns, playing
the harp, or macramé.
Allison Rojas (MA '96)
Allison Rojas completed her Master's Degree at the Humphrey School in 1999. After graduation, Allison worked for the Minnesota
HIV Services Planning Council and Chicanos Latinos Unidos En Servicio
before joining the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation as a Senior Consultant.
This year, Allison joined three of her Wilder co-workers in establishing
Community Consulting Group, an organization development company,
where she now serves as a Partner. In addition to her work with
CCG, Allison also runs her own consulting business, providing resource
development and evaluation services to local and national government
and non-profit agencies.
Kelly Scanlan (MA '95)
Kelly has worked for Congresswoman Betty McCollum in her Saint Paul
District office for the past year and worked on her 2002 re-election
campaign before being hired at the district office.
Prior to this, Kelly worked for a nonprofit organization called
Common Hope for four years. Common Hope does development work with
impoverished families in Guatemala. Kelly was the work-team coordinator
and warehouse manager.
Kelly has previous board experience with the Hugh OBrian Youth
Leadership Program (HOBY) as the seminar co-chair as well as several
years of involvement as a volunteer with HOBY. (HOBY coordinates
an annual leadership seminar for high school sophomores). Kelly
received her undergraduate degree is from the College of St Benedict
before entering the Humphrey School in 1995.
Kate Siggerud (MA '85) joins the
alumni board as the Washington, D.C., representative. She works
for the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), where she directs
GAO's work related to the U.S. Postal Service and federal highway
and transit policy. Kate remains in close contact with the Humphrey School by recruiting Humphrey students for internships and permanent
positions at GAO. |
