Katherine Siggerud (MPA '85), head of Congressional relations for GAO, received the University of Minnesota Alumni Association’s Alumni Service Award at the gala awards banquet held October 11, 2012 during the University’s Homecoming week. Siggurd, who earned a master’s degree in public affairs from the University’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs in 1987, was recognized for her contributions as a mentor, donor, and advocate for the University.
According to Eric Schwartz, Dean of the Humphrey School, “During 25 years of volunteer service, Kate Siggerud has acted as a mentor, served on the Humphrey School Alumni Board, actively promoted the Humphrey Alumni Scholarship Fund as a charter member of its Leadership Circle, and actively recruited and guided Humphrey students as they seek internships and start their professional public policy careers. She leads by generosity and example.”
Since graduating from the Humphrey School, Kate has been employed by the United States Accountability Office (GAO). She was first stationed in the Chicago Office and currently is the managing director of Congressional relations in Washington, D.C., overseeing a staff of more than 150 analysts and support staff investigating critical issues for Congress.
Each fall the University of Minnesota Alumni Association honors the top volunteers, groups, and programs of the past year. Kate is one of 15 individuals to be recognized for her service to the University this year.
Kate is the sixth Humphrey School Alumnus to receive the award. Past recipients include:
