Requesting a Deferral of Your Admission

Admitted applicants may request a one year deferral of their admission. Requests for deferrals are considered on a case-by-case basis by the Director of Recruiting and Admissions. Deferral requests must be submitted prior to course registration to be considered, and may be sent to Amy Luitjens, Director of Recruiting and Admissions, luitjens@umn.edu. If a deferral request is granted, the deferred applicant must:
-Complete the online Enrollment Form (by April 15th for MDP, MPP, MS-STEP, and MURP applicants; by June 30 for MPA applicants);
-Plan to resubmit an updated personal statement and resume directly to the Director of Recruiting and Admissions by January 15, 2014 in order to be considered for financial aid in the following year, and by April 1, 2014 for all other applicants.
-Deferred applicants will receive a request to submit their updated application materials in the fall of 2013.

Registration + Orientation

Before you can register and activate your admission to the University of Minnesota, you will be required to complete a series of online orientation activities. Former students of the University of Minnesota will also be required to complete these online activities before registering. We hope to send information about orientation in early May. At that time, we also will send you information about completing prerequisites, and advising.
