ARVONNE FRASER FUND —PARTNERSHIP IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS
The Arvonne Fraser Fund was established in 1995 in honor of Senior Fellow Emerita Arvonne Fraser. This fund supports the many activities of the Center on Women and Public Policy at the Humphrey School.
Arvonne Fraser joined the Humphrey School in 1981 as one of its first senior fellows. At the Institute, she co-founded the Center on Women and Public Policy and directed the International Women's Rights Action Watch (IWRAW), a project dedicated to implementing the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
In 1993, Fraser resigned from the Institute to become the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. Among her many awards and recognitions is the University's Outstanding Achievement Award, which she received in 2008. In April 2009, the Humphrey School dedicated Room 173 Humphrey Center in recognition of Senior Fellow Emerita Arvonne Fraser and her many life accomplishments.
Arvonne Fraser pioneered a place for women and feminism in Minnesota party politics. She has been a vital force in creating the institutions of second wave feminism in the United States. She contributed to the international movement that explicitly expanded the definition of human rights to include women's rights. As a teacher, researcher, and administrator, she championed the study of women's rights within the Humphrey School, a legacy that continues today.
